Yes, the hi res textures can hit you pretty hard, especially if you are using a lot of other things too. (injectors/post processors/other texture mods) I'm one of those people who put up with a lousy 15-20 fps so that I can use a ton of HD texture packs and visual mods but if those kind of framerates bother you, you should be careful about installing too many visual mods of your own. If you use a mod manager, after installing the hi res dlc or optimized version, you can install Skyrim HD 2K to see how it looks and can easily remove it without compromising your other textures. I personally prefer using Skyrim HD 2K with Vivid Landscapes over the hi res dlc as even the lite versions still look good.
